A1(M) Hatfield Tunnel Refurbishment – Skanska Balfour Beatty Joint Venture

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services appointed Atlantic Construction and Design to undertake various roles for the refurbishment of the A1(M) Hatfield Tunnel.

The initial appointment required preparation and approval from the Highways Agency for Departures from Standards – approvals for non conformance of specifications and type approvals of systems and equipment not meeting Highways Agency design standards.

Once these Departures from Standards had been prepared and approved, scope increased to undertake the Design Approval role, sourcing approval for all M&E design submissions.

Further expansion of Atlantic Construction and Design role within this project included project management and design of sub-station air conditioning and ventilation, fire detection and suppression, power factor correction and harmonic suppression and sump pump refurbishment and sump fire detection and suppression.
